Walking in Wisdom- A Practical Approach to Evangelism

Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. Colossians 4:5-6 NKJV

Paul in his letter to the church at Colossae gives a call, a strategy rather, to witness to unbelievers(those who are outside/without). He recommends a two-fold approach to evangelism. The first approach is evangelism by deed— walk in wisdom.(Eph 5.15) The christian life can take the form of a living epistle, written and read by many, as Paul would put it. The glory of God is then revealed therein, for all men to see. This is by demontrating the fruit of the spirit and the power of God.

You realise that your deeds do the heavy lifting, paving way for your speech, which at this instance is like a hot knife cutting through butter. It is still important that our words and deeds cohere, that they compliment each other. Our speech should be always full of grace and seasoned with salt. Full of grace in the sense that you speech should be warm and amiable, not divisive nor hostile. It should also be seasoned with salt, that is, with the gospel truth, for therein is the saving grace carried. It’s the truth that makes free just as salt gives taste to food.

So then, walk in wisdom, let you speech be full of grace and seasoned with salt.
